  • Together we can cut crime … Together we can all be Safer in Sussex

Speaker: Katy Bourne, Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC)

As your PCC, Katy Bourne’s job is to hold the Chief Constable of Sussex Police to account and ensure that the police focus on local priorities. In consultation with the Chief Constable and the people of Sussex, a Police & Crime Plan exists setting out the priorities and local objectives that local people and businesses say are important to them. Hear how the Plan has been working for businesses and about the new 2017/21 Plan which is shaping up based on four confirmed priorities including ‘Working with local communities and partners to keep Sussex safe’.

  • Cyber security: Protect your business against online threats

Speaker: Detective Inspector Andy Haslam, Head of Cyber Crime Unit (CCU) & Economic Crime Unit (ECU), Surrey & Sussex PoliceThe National Crime Agency (NCA) reported in July 2016 that cybercrime has now surpassed all other forms of crime in the United Kingdom. Cyber security is a key focus of the National Security Strategy and estimates that cyber crime costs the UK economy a significant £27 billion a year. The NCA highlights the need for stronger law enforcement and business partnership to fight cybercrime. Hear how Surrey & Sussex Police are working to address this issue.

Both the FSB and Wealden District Council are delighted to bring you this opportunity to hear about and discuss how to cut business crime. Cyber security is a top policy issue for the FSB as research shows 42 per cent of FSB members have been a victim of cyber crime in the last 12 months, costing an average of £4,000 per business. It is a serious barrier to growth. Businesses need to take steps and assess the risks of online crime and fraud.

Networking Opportunities: There will be an opportunity to mix and introduce yourself and your business to the other delegates at the event.
